Intensive training on listening, empathy and interviewing.HuffPost wanted to know: What does it mean to be American today? To find out, they hit the road over the Fall of 2017 to interview people about their hopes, dreams, fears and definition of “being American.” By converting a tour bus into a mobile video studio, they captured conversations with people of all ages and backgrounds. The goal: moving, multimedia storytelling that showcases what we share as Americans, rather than what divides us. The result was the phenomenal Listening Tour, an in-depth, honest, beautiful record of intimate and real stories and experiences across the country. I worked with the Listening Tour team at the HuffPost headquarters in New York City before they hit the road, with an intensive workshop focusing on specific skills, capacities and reflections on the simple — and difficult — task of listening, when the stakes are high and the emotions are running high. It was a highly successful experience for all.
